Arrived in Denali national park on Wednesday for a 3 day stay. Theresa spent Wed in the RV. Sick. Went to Three Bears grocery on Thursday morning. I got whatever Theresa has. Sick in RV ever since. Tomorrow, Saturday of to Fairbanks area. Hopefully leave whatever we have in the park. Hugo
We missed a few days. Anchorage is pretty much a city like any other city, with a few exceptions. If true. Tour bus guide informed us that 50% of all small planes in US is registered in Anchorage. I think he meant maybe Alaska? Our breakfast attendant at hotel informed us she spent one year in jail. Apparently had 3 dui’s in one day. She has been riding a bicycle ever since🥴But…. sober for 2 years👍 Picked up “Betsy” yesterday, stocked up on necessities at Walmart(beer & wine), and drove north to Palmer where we attended Alaska state fair. Huge! Biiiggg pumpkins, etc. Very nice. Wasilla is next town over, but no Sarah. Doing the RV thing, I’m beginning to associate with the life of a tortoise. Having your house on your back all the time. Booked 3 days in Denali starting tomorrow. Cheers Hugo
The first thing I noticed is that there are flowers everywhere! Beautiful planters and hanging baskets. This area has a 33 ft tide change. When the tide is out the mud flats are visible and very dangerous. It is like quicksand. We biked the coastal route today and seen moose. A baby with two adult females and one adult female by herself right along the bike path. Beautiful (but long…… 22 miles😳). Ready to call it a day. Tomorrow we pick up the RV. T
Made it to Skagway! Again the most awesome glaciers on the way in.
Obviously, a tourist town. Small planes, choppers, buses and trains. Not complaining, just informing. We took the 4 hour train excursion, and will highly recommend. I have read Micheners book, “Alaska”, and was somewhat familiar with the Klondike goldrush. To actually see what these poor fortune seekers went through, was eye opening. Not to mention the poor horses. If the guide is correct, of the 3800 horses used, only 35 survived. Many were left along the trail to starve to death.
We had no planned excursions booked. Ketchikan may be the salmon capital, but the town is practically entirely geared to tourism. Approximately 30 jewelry stores.
That does not mean we did not enjoy it. We did. Observed litteraly tens of thousands of salmon in a crystal clear river gathering to spawn. A ranger mentioned that in a few weeks that whole area will smell terrible from all the dying fish.
Attended a lumber jack show. Very good! These young, and not so young, studs know how to handle an ax! They are considerd “athletes” because they compete all over the country.
Four cruise ships at the dock at the same time, and another anchored in the open water.
Played Black Jack for a short period, and walked away with one dollar in the black.
Left Vancouver about 3pm yesterday. Theresa feels the ocean was pretty rough yesterday. I think she probably should not have that last glass of wine, because I did not think so. Saw our first whale blowing in distance. I played my first Bingo ever. No winning numbers. Today is a whole day on the ship. We will be in Ketchikan first thing in the morning. Hope to catch the lumber Jack(Jill) show there.
Had the best beef currie in many years today.
Pretty much a lazy and relaxing day in all
Cheers, H
I was very grateful that I had the behind the ear patch with me. The first night was a bit rough …… despite Hugo’s bravado, he also placed a patch. 🤪 T
NAbsolutely amazing how well organized the cruise ship manages the thousands of passengers. They have this down to a science.

So glad that we had a few days to visit Vancouver before our cruise today. What an amazing city!
Today we board the Princess Royal for our first ever cruise! 7 days with excursions in Ketchikan, Juneau and Skagway. If I find wifi in one of those towns I will send photos and updates. If not, I will share when we get to Anchorage on the 24th.
