We had no planned excursions booked. Ketchikan may be the salmon capital, but the town is practically entirely geared to tourism. Approximately 30 jewelry stores.
That does not mean we did not enjoy it. We did. Observed litteraly tens of thousands of salmon in a crystal clear river gathering to spawn. A ranger mentioned that in a few weeks that whole area will smell terrible from all the dying fish.
Attended a lumber jack show. Very good! These young, and not so young, studs know how to handle an ax! They are considerd “athletes” because they compete all over the country.
Four cruise ships at the dock at the same time, and another anchored in the open water.
Played Black Jack for a short period, and walked away with one dollar in the black.
