Alaska State Fair
We missed a few days.Anchorage is pretty much a city like any other city, with a few exceptions. If true.Tour bus guide informed us that 50% of all small planes in US is registered in Anchorage. I think he meant maybe Alaska? Our breakfast attendant at hotel informed us she spent one year in jail. Apparently …
Anchorage
The first thing I noticed is that there are flowers everywhere! Beautiful planters and hanging baskets. This area has a 33 ft tide change. When the tide is out the mud flats are visible and very dangerous. It is like quicksand. We biked the coastal route today and seen moose. A baby with two adult …
College Fjord
Visited College fjrod. It is a close call which location has the “awesomemist” glaciers. Getting ready to disembark in Whittier and on to Anchorage by bus. H
Glacier Bay
Today, Glacier Bay. The glaciers we saw yesterday were awesome. The glaciers today “awesomer”. We picked up rangers on the way in, and they made it more interesting. I don’t possess the vocabulary to describe the glaciers and scenery. Like one ranger said, most people describe it as just “wow”. We are heading into the …
Skagway
Made it to Skagway! Again the most awesome glaciers on the way in. Obviously, a tourist town. Small planes, choppers, buses and trains. Not complaining, just informing. We took the 4 hour train excursion, and will highly recommend. I have read Micheners book, “Alaska”, and was somewhat familiar with the Klondike goldrush. To actually see …
Never made it to Juneau
We were supposed to spent the day in Juneau, but due to strong winds the captain could not steer our little kayak into the dock. Hence, the day was spent on the boat. We passed some really awesome glaciers! Tomorrow, if everything goes according to plan, we will spent the day in Skagway. Stay tuned.
Ketchikan
We had no planned excursions booked. Ketchikan may be the salmon capital, but the town is practically entirely geared to tourism. Approximately 30 jewelry stores. That does not mean we did not enjoy it. We did. Observed litteraly tens of thousands of salmon in a crystal clear river gathering to spawn. A ranger mentioned that …
Cruise to Alaska
Left Vancouver about 3pm yesterday. Theresa feels the ocean was pretty rough yesterday. I think she probably should not have that last glass of wine, because I did not think so. Saw our first whale blowing in distance. I played my first Bingo ever. No winning numbers. Today is a whole day on the ship. …
Alaska Bound
So glad that we had a few days to visit Vancouver before our cruise today. What an amazing city! Today we board the Princess Royal for our first ever cruise! 7 days with excursions in Ketchikan, Juneau and Skagway. If I find wifi in one of those towns I will send photos and updates. If …
